Samurai Guide - Endwalker 6.3 (2023)

Last updateone10 January 2023NO15:53vonBoxer4 comments

Samurai is a melee DPS job in Final Fantasy XIV that uses his katana to level up Sen and Kenki and unleash both in the form of blunt combo attacks. They can only be played after completing a quest in Ul'dah after reaching level 50 and have no base class.

1.

What is the Samurai playstyle?

Samurai is a useless melee job with high damage and a semi-flexible blast window. They wield a katana and share attack gear with Monk, with a core stat of Strength.

Samurai do not provide their own attack buffs or group features. Instead, he excels at taking advantage of the buffs provided by other party members, giving each burst window an unrivaled amount of power. The core gameplay revolves around rotating through three basic combos to maintain a few buffs and collect resources in the form of Sen and Kenki. Every 120 seconds, Samurai unleashes a massive burst of heavy hitting abilities, with a slightly smaller burst every 60 seconds. Since these blast windows require a mostly GCD based setup, moving or holding them is a bit tricky. So a big part of optimizing Samurai is lengthening, shortening, or rearranging your rotation through combat or even through mechanics. The job has a low barrier to entry but a high skill bar when it comes to knowing how to rearrange your rotation in various ways to bypass the mechanic and still take advantage of your party's attack buffs.

  • Samurai Guide - Endwalker 6.3 (8)Easy maintenance on self buffs.

Samurai Guide - Endwalker 6.3 (9) weaknesses

  • Samurai Guide - Endwalker 6.3 (10)No benefit to the party other than damage, the benefit of the job depends heavily on the player's skills.
  • Samurai Guide - Endwalker 6.3 (11)Broken windows require some preparation, making it difficult to recover from deaths or long periods of inactivity.
  • Samurai Guide - Endwalker 6.3 (12)Variety comes at the cost of having too many separate skills, leading to bloated hotbars.

3.

How do I unlock samurai?

Added to FFXIV via the Stormblood expansion, Samurai starts at level 50 instead of level 1 like the base game jobs. Requirements for unlocking Samurai are therefore at least level 50 in a war or magic discipline job and possession of the Stormblood expansion.

After completing both requirements, go to Ul'dah, Steps of Nald (x9.2, y9.1) and talk to the Citizen of Ul'dahn to start the The Way of the Samurai quest. Upon completion, you will be rewarded with the Samurai Job Stone and some basic gear on the left.

Samurai-Wissen

Beyond the rolling waves towards the rising sun lies the island nation of Hingashi.

In the distant past, the great lords of the empire vied for supremacy over its maritime borders in a long and bloody conflict. And in the name of their masters, noble swordsmen, whose art was forged in the crucible of war, led the samurai into battle.

Eventually the nation was united under one banner and these warriors began wielding their katanas not as part of an army in the fields but as protectors of peace in the streets.

But just as rust dulls a neglected blade, so too do men forget their purpose. Amidst fading memories of the old days, some hold resolutely to their beliefs, hands on katana handles, waiting for the moment when the steel sings.
